The Rijksmuseum collection has about 500 Indian miniature paintings. Indian miniatures were brought to the Netherlands in the glory days of the Dutch East India Company (VOC). In the 17th century even Rembrandt made several drawings inspired by these exotic images, and they still enchant us today.
The Asian Art Society in the Netherlands (VVAK) is very proud that ten specialists have written about different characteristics of these beautiful miniatures for this volume.
With contributions of Anna Slaczka, Joachim Bautze, Neeraja Poddar, Isabella Nardi, Jahnabi Barooah Chanchani, Nachiket Chanchani, Elizabeth A. Cecil, John Brockington, Pauline Lunsingh Scheurleer, Mirjam Westra, and Amélie Couvrat Desvergnes.
